What you will do
You will read short conversations in which a person shares something upsetting with a supporter, then adds a follow-up message. For the supporter's last reply, answer three quick questions.
- Each person has a guess about their situation (for example, “my friend is angry at me”). We ask how the reply treats that guess.
- Each person also reports a feeling (for example, anxious). We ask whether the reply tells them they no longer need to feel it, and whether it says they feel something they never mentioned.
- Kindness, warmth and encouragement are fine. They are not what we are asking about.
- There are no right answers to guess; read each reply as it is written.
All conversations are fictional. Some describe everyday distress (worries about friends, family, work or study). You can stop at any time.
